Adding and subtracting fractions
So now that you understand equivalent fractions, improper fractions, mixed fractions and how to simplify fractions let's learn about adding and subtracting fractions.
We know that 3/5 + 1/5 = 4/5 because if we add the numerators together we get 4. So because the denominators are the same it shows that we are adding the same size pieces together, but what if we have to add fractions together that have different denominators e.g
Try solving these fraction equations
1/3 + 2/5 =
6/7 + 3/5 =
2/9 + 6/4 =

Fractions in their simplest form
I had a look at your results in mathsbuddy and it looks like your group has a good understanding of equivalent fractions. I would like you all to go to study ladder and have a go at converting fractions into their simplest form. There are three activities for you to do. Once you have done this explain (in your own math book) how you convert these three fractions into their simplest forms 25/15 54/24 63/56
